The Minor in Management is intended to provide a basic core of management courses, with a focus on management of the people rather than the business functions of organizations. The minor places emphasis on strategic management, leadership, and the management of employees. This minor provides basic knowledge required to fulfill a managerial or leadership role in an organizational setting. In nearly all professions, individuals have the potential to play formal and informal roles as managers or leaders. As responsibility for accomplishment of organizational objectives gets increasingly pushed to lower levels of organizations, skills in managing and leading become salient \for a much broader spectrum of the workforce: entrepreneurs, managers, supervisors, team leaders and team members. Thus, this minor is highly relevant to students in a wide variety of majors across the KSU campus.
The Management Minor was designed to provide a valuable knowledge base in management for students outside as well as those inside the College of Business Administration. The minor is self-contained, in that it assumes no prior expertise of students in either management or the organizational context within which management occurs. The required courses provide understanding of theory and its application in a variety of areas: basic managerial accounting principles, a wide range of approaches to management and leadership, team building, the full range of employment practices (from recruiting to termination), and the role and significance of individual (job attitudes, motivation, etc.) and organizational (design, culture, ,etc.) factors important to management in an organizational setting.
