New Course --- BUS 30192 -- Entrepreneurship Practicum

Course Number: BUS 30192

Course Description: This course offers students the hands-on experience of working with business owners to help solve real-life problems. Students will work in teams to provide assistance to the clients of the Entrepreneurial Lab. Students will participate in groups to work on projects such as, feasibility studies, business plans, branding strategies or new market opportunities. The business clients are either entrepreneurs preparing to launch their business or existing business owners who are preparing to venture into a new opportunity.

Credits: 1 credit hour, except where the student is an Entrepreneurship minor and will be working on a comprehensive project (i.e. business plan). In this case, the student could receive up to 3 credits.

Format: Students will meet in their groups and with their clients as determined by the entrepreneur-in-residence who will oversee the projects. Students will keep timesheets of their meetings and individual work on the projects. These will be remitted to the Lab on a bi-weekly basis. Students are expected to put in 4-10 hours per week of effort over the course of the semester. This will vary based on the project and expectations will be clarified upfront.

Pre-Requisites: Unless express permission is granted, a student must be of Junior or Senior standing. The teams are made up of a cross section of students, and any given semester, the needs may change. For example, there may be a team that consists of a marketing student, a finance student and an architecture student.

Admission process: A personal interview with the Center Director and the Entrepreneur-in-Residence will be conducted before being accepted into this course. Completion of BUS20456 (Introduction to Entrepreneurship) and BUS20195 (Entrepreneurship Speakers Series) with at least a minimum of a C in each is required. A cumulative GPA of 2.50 is required.
