Communication Studies is the best program of its kind, Gaudino says
In the past few years, the School of Communication Studies has continued its excellent record of growth — in terms of students and achievements. For instance, its graduate program has tripled in size, and the school has received numerous honors from organizations throughout the country.
School receives awards for outstanding program, faculty
The award-winning efforts of the School of Communication Studies faculty and students are doing just that — winning awards — quite a few in fact. So much so that the Ohio State Senate has joined a growing number of organizations and individuals to spotlight the school’s excellence and achievements.
This issue of Communiqué was prepared with the assistance of Flash Communications, a student-run public relations and marketing agency operated jointly by the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and University Communications and Marketing.
Annual golf outing supports student scholarships
The School of Communication Studies held its 2nd annual golf outing on July 9th at the Kent State University Golf Course. The outing raised funds for student awards and scholarships. Charter One Bank was the event sponsor. Alumni, faculty, students and administrators played 18 holes of golf. Participants received lunch and a raffle ticket. Prizes were donated by area businesses.
Career Day beneficial to students, alumni
The School of Communication Studies recently held its annual Career Day on April 8. Career Day gave undergraduate students the opportunity to network with professionals in the field who graduated from the Communication Studies program.
Kent State’s mock trial team makes strong national showing
Kent State’s 8-member mock trail team ranked in the top 13 percent at the recent American Mock Trial National Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa, this spring. Facing a field that included teams from Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Stanford, the Kent State team placed 64th among 500.

Communication skills help graduate find opportunity success
The School of Communication Studies prepared Katie Pfrogner to take advantage of the many priceless opportunities and valuable experiences she’s had since graduating from Kent State in 2003. Pfrogner, who now lives in Queens, N.Y., is trying to break into the entertainment business in New York City.
School celebrates 100th Ph.D.
The Communication Studies graduate program is on the rise — the number of 2004 applicants has more than tripled last year’s. In fact, the school awarded its 100th Ph.D. last semester to Angie Planisek during the Dec. 13 Commencement ceremony.
Communication studies helps Kent State grad become game show contestant
“Come ooooooooooon down!” is a phrase that many of us have heard on episodes of the long-running television show, The Price is Right. But Erin Rickelman, Communication Studies '03, was lucky enough to hear those words in person.
