Fred Endres joined Kent JMC after working in newspaper and magazine journalism in Ohio and Washington, D.C.
He holds a B.S.J. and an M.A. from Bowling Green State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park. He taught at the University of Toledo and Western Illinois University. Endres is a professor in the News Sequence and the graduate program and serves as Web Editor of the JMC website.
His research interests involve online journalism, newsroom sociology, and media history. He has published articles in Newspaper Research Journal, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, Journal of Mass Media Ethics, and Journalism and Mass Communicator Educator. He also serves as a manuscript reviewer for JMME and textbook publishers. He worked as a Moulton Hall Scholar for a year, studying the writing and presentation of online news.
Endres also wrote a book on the history of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and a monograph on the history of the Daily Kent Stater.
He is an avid collector of antiques and Americana. He is a coach for the Kent Roosevelt High School bowling team, and he operates a small online collectibles business in his "spare time."
