Kent offers a variety of courses within three areas of study in the JMC graduate program. Our programs are:
The JMC programs are designed to give students a solid background in preparation for a professional or academic career. Courses are dynamic, challenging, and professionally relevant. With small class sizes, students are able to learn from their professors and from the experiences of their fellow classmates; many of who are working media professionals.
As one of two nationally accredited journalism schools in the state of Ohio, Kent provides its students with a strong foundation to achieve their future goals in the rapidly changing media industry.

Requirements Checklist for Admission
- Have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0
- Have a composite GRE score of at least 1000
- Submit a completed online Kent State University Graduate Application form. Forms are located on the Research and Graduate Studies web site.
- Write a statement of purpose explaining why you are interested in graduate studies at Kent JMC and submit it online at the site above.
- Send two original copies of all college transcripts to the Division of Research and Graduate Studies.
- Submit online recommendations from three people, at least one who is a professor and who was your instructor.
- Have a TOEFL score of 600 or more for international students.
