IMAGE: Depiction of Archimedes using a lever to move the world, by Renaissance artist Giulio Parigi
The picture above is a detail from a mural by Florentine artist Giulio Parigi (1571 - 1635), in which he depicts Archimedes "moving the world" using a lever. Archimedes is arguably the most famous and accomplished scientist and engineer of ancient times, and as such, he helped lay the foundation for modern engineering. A Pre-Engineering Program imparts basic knowledge and skills in mathematics and the physical sciences, and likewise paves the way for later study and mastery of the techniques of modern engineering.
