SLIS at Kent State University is the only American Library Association accredited Masters in Library and Information Science (M.L.I.S.) degree program in the state of Ohio. An M.L.I.S. degree is the basic requirement for professional employment in most libraries and information centers.

Dr. Carolyn S. Brodie is awarded the 2008 Scholastic Library Publishing Award from the American Library Association (ALA).
