Communication Research Center
Established 1983
The CRC was established in 1983. The CRC is the center of School of Communication Studies research activities. School activities, such as alumni affairs and school outcomes assessment, have been coordinated through the CRC and, of late, so have research policies and computer facilities.
Goals:
To enhance research opportunities and productivity of Communication Studies faculty and students by:
- maintaining a library of communication journals, books, and other materials useful for research purposes.
- coordinating use of audio-visual equipment for research and teaching.
- providing computer facilities for graduate students and faculty research.
- holding colloquia, symposia, and conferences to enhance faculty, student, and alumni research.
- coordinating publicity for research activities.
- securing extramural funding through workshops, professional assistance, and grants.
- providing technical assistance for grant proposals.
- managing data collection efforts for School faculty and graduate students.
- informing faculty/students of grant opportunities.

Communication Instructional Resource Lab (CIRL)
Established 1996
The CIRL was established in 1996. The mission of the CIRL is to coordinate instructional resources and provide additional materials, equipment, and resources for instructional practices. Systematic desensitization workshops help fund the CIRL as well as other workshops offered through Continuing Studies and Human Resources Development, either on- or off-campus. The resource center will be open to students in COMM classes and COMM faculty.
Functions:
- To assist faculty instruction.
- To coordinate and encourage on- and off-campus workshops.
- To provide undergraduate students with computing facilities to search databases and other library materials.
- To provide faculty with computer facilities and software to assist instruction.
- To coordinate distance learning activities for the School.
Services:
- Resource Lab, with computers, AV equipment, and library materials.
